Description

All your favorite characters from the All Dogs Go To Heaven children's series are back in this captivating canine retelling of a Christmas classic the whole family will love! It'sshaping up to be a wonderful Christmas for all the precious pooches at the Flea Bite Cafe. There's shining packages, sparkling decorations, and even a hefty donation fund for Timmy, a lovable little pup who's in need of an operation. But the festivities and good will don't mean anything to Carface,a big bully of a bulldog. Carface doesn't like Christmas. In fact, he even hates it. And together with his bad dog buddies, he's come up with a plan to ruin itfor everybody! But that's when Charlie and Itchy step in andwith a little divine interventiondevise a brilliant plan of their own to save Christmas and transform Carface from a holiday humbug to a bonafide Yuletide hero!

Another straight-to-video sequel of a so-so animated film. The original 1989 All Dogs Go to Heaven was hardly inspired but contained expert Don Bluth animation and the amusing voices of Burt Reynolds and his gang. Now Steven Weber voices the animated mutt Charlie who is still palling around with the same gang through three movies and an animated series. Here the arch villain, Carface (Ernest Borgnine), gets the traditional Dickens treatment of being visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve. The opening number, "When I Hear a Christmas Carol," is a good start, but soon TV-ish animation and the low humor wears one down. Kids who like the earlier Dog efforts won't be disappointed, but the entire series can never be defined as great entertainment. The saving grace is the foolproof Christmas Carol visitations. --Doug Thomas

The movie is a very good christmas movie, and deserves a 5. I wish they made more movies like this. The movie is about carface a greety dog who steels this little puppy's money for his broken leg. Then Charlie, itchy, and sashamake a plan to show carface what will happen to him in the past and in the future. It's a christmas carol movie, in a dog version. See the movie. It's very entertaining.

Reminiscent of Batman and Robin and The Wizard of Oz
star 4.0 An All Dogs Christmas Carol
by William M. Vaughan from Texas, U.S.A. on 2009-01-24
This is one of the best animated versions of "A Christmas Carol" available, in my opinion, but not because of its fidelity to the novel by Charles Dickens. Although it borrows enough elements from the Dickens classic to be recognizable as a version of that popular Christmas story, it also has elements more reminiscent of an episode of "Batman and Robin," or "The Wizard of Oz." The plots and sub-plots are complex, and the characters well developed. The graphics are better than those in most animated versions, too. I would recommend this version to people unfamiliar with "A Christmas Carol" as a family-oriented Christmas movie that stands on its own merits, as well as to people, like me, who collect as many different versions of "A Christmas Carol" as they can!

Overall the All Dogs series is a very good series

Overall the DVD was good and very much appropriate for young children. However, after a couple of weeks it had fallen to the back of his preference list. We've not watched it in over a year now. I guess this isn't so different from any other DVD we have. I would recommend this for young children. It does have quite a few concepts that are not appropriate, but are presented in a way that is way over the heads of children adn does have a few scenes that very concervative parents may term violent.

Description

There's just one shopping day until Christmas! Fred is so wrapped up in his acting debut as Scrooge in the Bedrock production of "A Christmas Carol" that he's completely forgotten to buy any gifts. And worse, he's left baby Pebbles stranded at Cave Care Center! But wife Wilma and a few familiar ghosts perform a true Christmas miracle, helping hubby Fred remember the true meaning of the season. Join Barney, Betty, Bam Bam, and Dino in this hilarious stone-age version of the magical holiday classic.

Baste the turkeysaurus and head over to Bloomingshale's for some last-minute shopping; it's Christmastime in Bedrock. Fred and the gang have more than the usual festive preparations up their prehistoric sleeves, however, as they are staging a production of "The Christmas Carol" with Fred in the role of Scrooge. Things take a frightening turn when--in the classic tradition of method acting--Fred takes his role to heart and becomes a bit humbuggish himself. So preoccupied with his role is he, that he forgets to pick up Pebbles from day care, leaves Christmas shopping off his list of things to do, and belittles the parts played by his friends (such as Barney as Bob Cratchit). When the Bedrock bug (a flu virus) begins to fell cast members, it provides the ideal opportunity for costume maker and stage manager Wilma to take on understudy duties and scare some sense into her self-absorbed husband. And just in time for Christmas Eve. God bless them, every one. (Ages 2 and older.) --Kimberly Heinrichs

I have this on video and I really enjoy watching it. I think the Flintstone's version of Dicken's classic is really interesting. The "Bedrock Bug" concept is funny too. This is highly recommended. Oh, I also liked the line by Philo, the cop: "You'd better get the stars out of your eyes and watch where you're going."

Favorite Childhood Cartoon - Ebenezer Scooge Style
star 5.0 A Flintstones Christmas Carol
by Catherine Billelo from Wallingford, CT United States on 2000-08-22
As a child I loved the Flintstones. As an adult I found this adaptation to be a stroll down memory lane. I bought this video for the kids, but found myself liking as much if not more than they did. It's corny, but who cares - it's the Flintstones at their corny best. The story is a play within a play. Fred is his usual grumpy, lovable self - he's perfect as Scooge. Wilma, Barney and the Gang serve up a tasty Christmas treat. A must for everyone who loves the Flintstones and the story of Scooge!

Worth Watching

by Sean Ares Hirsch from on 2000-11-10
Well, I can't say this is the best version I have seen, and I am not sure Charles Dickens would be overly impressed with this. And, I would sooner use the "Muppets' Christmas Carol" to help someone understand the story. But aside from that, the movie is quite clever. Despite the unorthodox acting of the Flintstones, the Rubbles, Mr. Slate, Dino, and others, the story is told fairly well. What I found quite entertaining was that this is the first version of "A Christmas Carol" I have seen where backstage squabbles make up a fair portion of the movie. And in all honesty, there is something very funny about seeing the actors perform in at least partial harmony on stage, and then seeing them argue backstage between the scenes. And the part of the story which involves Fred getting too much into character is actually quite realistic. While this is not the best version of Dickens' classic, and while I would not use it to teach someone the story, it is a delightful movie to watch after you have a healthy understanding of the story.

"What the Dickenstone?!"
star 3.0 A Flintstones Christmas Carol
by from on 1999-06-27
Seriously, folks, this Hanna-Barbera adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens book is not bad. Fred Flintstone takes on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge (and is full of it) while wife Wilma manages the show off and on stage. One cast member after another comes down with the 'Bedrock Bug,' a flu-like illness which turns its victims green and disables them for at least 24 hours. Fred must pull off the role of a lifetime and redeem himself to his family before the Bug finds him. Faithful to the story, and imaginative at times; I don't see Dickens' ghost getting restless over this.

Classic Australiania
star 4.0 Bush Christmas
by Sasi from Wonthaggi, Australia on 2001-12-19
This film is a light-hearted film that kids and adults will enjoy. I had a laugh at the way Australians were portrayed - It was so exaggerated. It made it funny in a nice way- I reckon if they re-released the film, it would almost get cult status. Mum in the kitchen cooking and all perfectly made up in the middle of the Bush. The stereotypical portrayal of Aboriginals (which are referred to as blackefellas believe it or not) as good stockman and trackers. (which they were but there is alot more to ABoriginals than that - ie their culture, spirituality). The Aussie kids all blond and freckled with names like Snow (How original!)Australia had come such as long way, and we like to laugh at ourselves! This film is a bewdy mate!

Summer Christmas
star 5.0 Bush Christmas
by A. Olive from Southern California, USA on 2005-01-18
Yes Christmas in Summer down under, and in a long gone era. I first viewed this film when I was about eight or so, with my Grandpa stating how he actually filmed this movie. It is a long gone era in Australian history with everyone having a slight British accent, but northern hemi-sphere viewers do get to see Christmas in the summer instead of winter. As for some of the references to Aboriginals.......my kids didn't even pick them up (6 & 7 ages), funny to think how half these lines would now have this movie poorly judged, but as I said my kids didn't even pick them up and laughed with the jokes. And my kids are black! This movie also featured the late Chips Rafferty who was one of Australia's most premiered stars, and always portrayed that so called "Australian look and sound".

"Walkabout" for a Pre-Teen and Middle School Audience
star 4.0 Bush Christmas
by Only-A-Child from on 2007-12-22
Don't be scared away by the title, "Bush Christmas" (1947) has nothing to do with George W. or his father. They are referring to the Australian "Bush" and this is a children's film that no doubt was a heavy influence on Nicholas Roeg"s "Walkabout" (1971); as well as its source novel by James Vance Marshall. In both a small band of children find themselves in the bush country and out of their element, getting survival tips from a native boy. "A Far Off Place" (1993) and "Alaska" (1996) also appropriated many elements of the story. "Bush Christmas" is the least gritty of the four films but the most believable and the least manipulative. It should remind the viewer of the modern Australian television show "Saddle Club" as the kids are around horses all the time; even riding them to and from school. And the plot involves Grinch-inspired horse thieves who almost ruin Christmas for the family when they steal their prize mare, leaving her young colt behind. So the five children head into the bush to track down the horse thieves, while their parents and the police search for them. There is even a Ghost Town (also found in "Walkabout") although you have to suspend disbelief when the until now very perceptive children inexplicably take too long to recognize that the horse thieves are its only residents. Worth noting is that Helen Grieve plays the only girl in this group of adventurous children but there is no condescension to her, she rides better than the boys and takes on a kind of "Wendy" from "Peter Pan" role in the group. Christmas in the southern hemisphere is a summer event but the holiday is still celebrated with winter wonderland decorations, presents, and a tree. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.

I enjoy this movie as much today as I did as a child. Oh how I envied the kids in the film. Riding to school on horseback. And having the adventure of a lifetime. All the while presenting a slice of life, during World War II, in rural Australia.

The story of the Juggler of Notre Dame goes back to at least the 12th century in France as one of the "miracle plays" of the medieval period in which God rewards devout commoners through acts of wonder. In this gripping, heart-warming contemporary version from Paulist Productions, Barnaby ekes out a bare existence juggling in the street for coins. He is broken-hearted over the death of his wife and best friend. Barnaby drifts aimlessly until he stays in a small community where he is treated kindly. As Christmas approaches, all are making special gifts for the Lord. Barnaby despairs over having nothing to offer until he discovers a most profound truth about the meaning of Christmas and giving. The True Meaning of Christmas

The Juggler of Notre Dame is one of the best, most inspirational Christmas movies I have ever seen. It is such a simple movie, but one that has a strong message. A wonderful family movie!!! My all time favorite movie!!!!

As good as I remember it

I saw this movie at about the same time that it was released. I was maybe 10 years old. I remember "feeling" for the main character, Barnaby. I was moved by this movie, I cried for hours after watching it. Growing up Catholic, this movie was also appealing because all of the characters appear to be Catholic that was the only world I knew at the time, I felt at home. I just rented this movie and I have been debating on whether or not to purchase it for the last 2 years, but after seeing again 22 years later and having the same reaction as I did 22 years earlier. I must own it. I hope this little review helps people. Maybe I'm weird, I can totally understand the pain that Barnaby feels. This one is a good tear jerker.

I was given this DVD as gift to be watched especially Christmas Eve but anytime is great. The story depicts a man who feels his life is worthless, yet he offers the best, most appreciated gift to the Statue of Mother Mary. The response is exhilarating. This is an excellent movie for all ages and a wonderful Christmas tradition.Juggler of Notre Dame

Most people I know have never heard of this movie and look at me strangely when I ask them if they have seen it, but I love this movie! It was the first movie that I saw that made me cry and it is one of the only movies that has touched me so deeply that I shed a tear or two. I think it is a timeless story of love and friendship and I plan to make a family tradition of watching it every Christmas.
